Specific Questions
The “Stop Counting Calories” book contains more than 100 Questions & Answers – some asked frequently, some quite personal and particular to individuals – but you may find that’s exactly the question to which you’re looking for the answer. This page has all the specific questions about foods, which were outside the Top 10 FAQ’s. In this section of the book, everything from cereal to vitamins and from chewing gum to stock cubes are covered:
Q) Which cereal can I have for breakfast?
Remember, any cereal is a carb meal so you can only have it with skimmed milk. No whole milk is allowed, because that would be mixing your fats and carbs.
Q) I chew sugar-free gum and it says on the packet that it is high in carbs, but that the carbs are “sugars 0%” and “polyols 100%”. What are polyols and where do they fit in with refined/unrefined carbs?
Q) Is there any way I can have chips?
Q) Corn flour: Can we use corn flour for thickening?
Q) Can I eat cream ?
Q) Can we eat/use crème fraiche or Fromage Frais?
Q) Can we use mascarpone cheese?
Q) Is it OK to take painkillers? I had a horrendous headache for two days (caffeine withdrawal?) and in the end gave in to paracetamol. Was that OK?
For your information, I’m following the diet not to lose weight (I’m your height and size), but to reduce sugar cravings. I also suspect I suffer from Candida. Any advice would be appreciated.
Q) Pasta vs. rice – which is better?
Q) I just have a quick question. There are a few terms we don’t see in America much – what are pulses, for example?
Q) What about potatoes – good or bad?
Q) Tinned tomatoes: are these OK?
Q) Can I have smoked fish?
Q) What should I have for snacks?
Q) Stock Cubes: Can I use stock cubes?
Q) Can I have sweet corn?
Q) As a snack can I have vegetable crisps?
Q) Can I put balsamic or other vinegar on salads?
Q) Why do I need vitamins if I’m eating good food?
