Products
In this section I am going to start posting some of my least favourite products – they shouldn’t be called foods.
My favourite foods are easy: meat, eggs and dairy products from animals that have freely been grazing on grass; fish; vegetables and salads (ideally organic – given that 5.6 billion pounds, in weight, of pesticides are used each year); nuts & seeds (ideally in their shells, so that man has not messed around with them) and that’s about it! For people who don’t have to worry about their weight and are not overly carb sensitive, local, seasonal fruits can be healthy and enjoyable. The whole grain debate is an interesting one – whole grains do have more nutrients than their white alternatives, but whole grains may be more abrasive than white grains and are thus implicated in conditions from Irritable Bowel Syndrome to Bowel Cancer.
For sufferers of wheat intolerance, who want to consume whole grains, there are now rice based alternatives for standard wheat based products – rice pasta and rice cereal and so on. Supermarkets now have a good selection of these – they are no longer found only in health food shops. Look out for the gluten free section in your grocery store.
I am searching for the worst product on the planet and I would love your help. Please add a comment to any of the blog posts – especially if you find one worse than the Weight Watchers Chocolate Brownie on the “least favourite products” page!
What makes for a bad product? Lots of ingredients listed and as many of them as possible being things we just don’t need – sugar, syrup, glucose syrup, gelatine etc. Plus lots of things you don’t even recognise – and therefore should not be putting in your mouth!
Many thanks for your help
Kind regards – Zoe
